West Seattle SkyLink Feasibility

Support This ProjectSound Transit is planning an elevated light rail to connect West Seattle to the regional light rail system at SODO by 2032 – and beyond by 2037. The project is already 2 years late and 73% over budget. The construction will entail demolishing trees and parks and disturbing the Duwamish River. Offsetting its carbon footprint will take more than a decade.
We propose studying an urban gondola as an alternative. It could provide emission free, reliable, high capacity, continuous public transit with minimal construction impact. It could be up and running years sooner than light rail, greatly accelerating the urgent need to reduce car traffic and carbon emissions.
We are educating the public and asking Sound Transit to commission a technical feasibility study by outside experts to make the best decision for the people of the Duwamish peninsula and our environment.
