Lewis Park Natural Area

Stewarding the Lewis Park Natural Area on Beacon Hill.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Lewis Park Natural Area on Beacon Hill, just south of the JoséŽ Rizal Bridge and below Pacific Tower, was long abandoned and overrun with invasive species and garbage. Volunteers from the neighborhood and other community groups began clearing invasive plants and debris, improving the landscape, and planting native species. This restoration project has led to deep engagement with area schools and community members, creating valuable volunteer opportunities. New trails have improved pedestrian circulation, provided easier access for people with disabilities, and allowed for more restoration, stewardship, and educational activities.
