HOSTED – Healthy Othello Safer Through Environmental Design

Engage diverse neighbors to increase their safety and healthy activity in our public spaces to connect and improve everyone’s health and well-being.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

We engage neighbors, community organizations, property owners, and government agencies who have a stake in the Othello neighborhood around the Seattle Light Rail station at MLK Jr. Way and S Othello St to improve the health and community connection of our highly diverse neighborhood to make our public spaces safer and more accessible to all people. Through community surveys, meetings, and discussions we collect neighbor input on proposed ideas for improvements.

In the next year, we want to bring more youth art, pedestrian safety enhancements implemented or designed, more shade and diverse plant life along the Chief Sealth Trail, and community gatherings to connect in common interest and advocate for improved safety as opportunities arise to move the needle to improve neighbors’ health and well-being.
