Dr. Jose Rizal Park Stewards

Our goal is to build on the legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Filipino national hero, to create a welcoming experience for all.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Dr. Jose Rizal Park is an international park located in Seattle’s South End neighborhood, at the tip of Beacon Hill. This year, our team of six stewards will host several volunteer events, while working with the Filipino community and Friends of Dr. Jose Rizal. Last year, we set the groundwork by making improvements to the park’s 52-tree apple orchard, off-leash area, and forest, while maintaining an active, positive presence in the upper park. We are planning on improving the off-leash area trail system with suitable gravel, expanding the orchard into a sustainable food forest, and establishing survival rings for native trees in the woods.

In October 2021, The Friends of Dr. Jose Rizal hosted the first of what is now an annual Halloween event, with music, costume prizes, cooking demonstrations, and much more.
