A community-led effort to assist Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) in activating a previously closed part of Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park in the Central District. The goal is to engage local skateboarding community members by building a city-sanctioned DIY skate spot under the existing shelter at the park, providing a much-needed covered skate space in a historically underserved neighborhood.
With SPR’s encouragement, local skaters will volunteer their time and expertise to plan and build a beginner-friendly skateable space, phasing out existing wooden obstacles with permanent poured concrete if enough funds are raised. The result will be a vibrant, fun hangout spot that serves local youth, lets people skate when it’s raining, and gets people and activity back into an underutilized park.
