Occidental Promenade

From sports games and events to neighborhood businesses and residents, Occidental Avenue South is a complex space that serves many functions. We are working collaboratively to complete the near-term improvement project by Spring 2026.

Project Overview

Occidental Avenue South Street Improvements

Seattle Parks Foundation, the Alliance for Pioneer Square, partners, community stakeholders and the Seattle Department of Transportation are working with MIG urban design and engineers to create near term strategies and a long-term vision for the redevelopment of the Occidental Avenue South right-of-way between South King Street and South Royal Brougham Way. Our goal is to complete the near-term improvement project by Spring 2026 in advance of the World Cup 2026.

From sports games and events to neighborhood businesses and residents, Occidental Avenue South is a complex space that serves many functions for the neighborhood and public. This project seeks to build on the City’s 2015 vision for Occidental Avenue South, which envisioned a year-round promenade that prioritizes people and accommodates vehicular access to further integrate Occidental Ave South and the Stadium District with Pioneer Square and Downtown.

Goals for the Project

The goals of this project are to confirm the long-term vision and develop a phased approach for short-term tactical public improvements that can be executed prior to the 2026 World Cup.

  • Address Vendor Management.
  • Address safety needs.
  • Create a vibrant stadium district, providing street amenities and flexibility for the various users and venues.
  • Identify near term improvements to support the World Cup 2026.
  • Set the stage for longer improvements.
