October Understory: Lunch and Learn with Tree Equity Network

Topic: Canopy Across The Country: What’s Worked + What Hasn’t for Chicago’s Tree Canopy
The Tree Equity Network is hosting a series of lunch and learns called Understory, each lasting roughly 30 minutes, with focuses on different tree-equity related topics. These short-and-sweet workshops will serve as bite-sized informational sessions to keep us informed and knowledgeable.
On October 22, join us for a session with Tom Ebeling from Openlands, an organization that works to protects the natural and open spaces of northeastern Illinois and the surrounding region. He’ll share with us about how Chicago looks at equitably distributed tree canopy and urban forestry in their city, what challenges they face, and what his organization is doing about it. Join us on the 22nd!
About the speaker: With 15 years of experience in Urban & Community Forestry, Tom brings expertise in traditional forestry, arboriculture, nursery growing, community engagement and environmental sciences. Tom is the Director of Forestry at Openlands, where he mentors a team of forestry professionals and leads strategies to protect, maintain, and grow Chicago region’s trees, forest connectivity, and canopy cover.
