Join us to celebrate the new mural on Occidental Promenade!
Populus welcomes back Cristina Martinez, one of its original artists in residence, whose work has been part of the hotel since its doors first opened. She returns a year later having just finished the largest work of her career, a permanent mural on the Occidental Promenade a few steps from the hotel and directly across from the tenth edition of the Seattle Art Fair. A Soft Place to Land is her homecoming, a weekend that gathers the work, the neighborhood, and the people who live with it back in the space where it began.
The day’s festivities kick off at noon on the Occidental Promenade, where everyone gathers at the foot of the mural for its unveiling, a permanent addition to the corridor that runs down toward the stadiums. From there the day moves indoors to the Art & Music Room at Populus, where a limited edition print release and signing runs from 1 to 6 PM alongside a merch pop-up, an afternoon to meet the artist, carry a print home, and see the work take root in everyday things.
