Green Lake Adaptive Kayak Launch

Providing fully accessible infrastructures so that individuals with disabilities, or needing additional help, can kayak independently at any time.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Each of us has the right to enjoy Seattle’s waterways; the Green Lake Adaptive Kayak Launch Project hopes to make that a reality. Adding an adaptive launch plus a contactless kayak rental system to Green Lake would allow those with a disability to enter and exit a kayak on their own, and at any time. It would offer freedom, dignity, and opportunity to the 1 in 4 individuals here who live with a disability, including veterans, seniors, children, or anyone with an illness or injury, or needing help to get on the water.

Kayaking is the fastest growing watersport, with opportunities for recreation, fitness, fishing, and nature exploration. Once on the water, individuals with disabilities feel an unmatched sense of independence, and experience benefits to their physical and mental health. An adaptive kayak launch would enrich the lives of those living with disabilities, and allow them to enjoy Green Lake’s waterways with family and friends, or on their own, just like everybody else.
