Rainier Valley currently lacks a community garden, leaving few opportunities for residents to grow food locally or gather outdoors. The Frontenac Community Garden project will transform an underutilized right-of-way into a vibrant, inclusive green space where neighbors can cultivate their own produce, contribute to food security efforts, and build stronger community connections. This welcoming “third place” will offer respite and beauty along a busy corridor, while fostering environmental stewardship and social ties.
The project includes site preparation and grading; installation of a water meter, service lines, frost-free hydrants, and irrigation; construction of rain gardens, raised beds, and gabion walls; planting of fruit trees; and addition of benches, picnic tables, a shade structure, garden shed, eco blocks for safety, and accessible walking paths.
