Friends of Woodland Park Ave North is a community group working to make our street safer for children, pets and people.

A school bus drops off children on this busy street multiple times a day with cars routinely speeding past at 40 or even 50 miles per hour. We are working with the Seattle Department of Transportation to narrow the street, slow the traffic, and make the neighborhood safer for everyone. Our new street design will create areas on each side of the street with planter boxes where neighborhors can garden together, children can play safely, and dog walkers, pedestrians, and visitors to the neighborhood can stop and chat.

After a two-year delay due to transportation levy issues, our project is nearing completion! Buffer zones have been installed on either side of the street to narrow the drivable roadway, slowing the traffic, and making the street safer for everyone. We are definitely seeing results. The next phase will be gathering volunteers to create community planting spaces on the street. These plantings will continue the traffic calming and help return the street to its residential aspect.
