Healthy Othello brings together community members throughout our diverse South Seattle neighborhoods to expand accessibility and equitable access to community resources and public and green spaces, fostering the growth of healthier and safer communities.
We engage neighbors, community organizations, property owners, and government agencies who have a stake in the Othello neighborhood around the Seattle Light Rail station at MLK Jr. Way and S Othello St to improve the health and community connection of our highly diverse neighborhood. Our focus for last 7 years has been on making our public spaces safer and more accessible to all people summarized in our New Holly-Othello Art Tour guide. Through community surveys, meetings, and discussions a community events, we collect neighbor input on proposed ideas for improvements to advocate and help implement.
In the next year, we want to bring more youth art, pedestrian safety enhancements implemented or designed, more shade and diverse, native plant life along our pedestrian routes with more regular community gatherings to connect in common interest and advocate for improved health and well-being of residents as opportunities arise.
