Support This ProjectWe are developing a Colonnade along the waterfront of West Montlake Park. The Colonnade will consist of repurposed historic lamp posts that once adorned the streets of the Shelby/Hamlin corridor. The project preserves the rich history of the neighborhood and enhances the appeal of the park. The colonnade development will be guided and driven by a newly formed coalition that features a private enterprise, a community organization, and dedicated Montlake residents. This preservation project will remind us of our history, promote community engagement, and improve the experience and enjoyment of important public space in Seattle. The repurposed lamp posts were originally installed in the early 1920s, are of signature “Olmsted style”, and have been a deep source of community pride for decades. Their design mirrors and complements the existing streetlights on the historic Montlake Bridge, as well as the early University of Washington Neo-Gothic architecture most notably found in the architecture of Suzzallo Library.
