The Cascade Giving Garden

Revitalizing and expanding the Cascade People’s Center grounds and existing P-Patch Giving Gardens

Project Description

The Cascade neighborhood in South Lake Union is one of the wealthiest in the city, with multi-billion-dollar companies and world-class research facilities, but some residents, including recent refugees, lack shelter and enough food to eat. At the center of this amazingly diverse neighborhood is the beautiful but severely underused Cascade Playground. This project will improve the playground through beautification efforts and grounds maintenance at the adjoining Cascade People’s Center with the involvement of nonprofit agency partners and community volunteers. The goals are to increase positive uses of the park, engage community groups and neighbors, increase productivity at the P-Patch Giving Gardens (including donating thousands of pounds of produce each year to neighborhood residents and the emergency food system), increase ecological benefits, and decrease unwanted behaviors by activating more growing space.
