Restoration of the Burke-Gilman Trail

Providing a healthy, functioning greenway along the Burke-Gilman Trail for the benefit of the people, birds, and animals that use the trail and involving the community in stewardship

Project Description

Our project takes on new sections of the Burke-Gilman Trail every year. We remove invasive plants such as English ivy and Himalayan blackberry and replace them with native species including trees, shrubs, and understory plants. We also go back and weed old sections of the trail that we have already cleared and planted. We have been doing this for more than 12 years. We also offer bird walks and steward walks on the trail—including for more than 200 fifth-graders from three schools as well as middle- and high-schoolers—to help educate people about this work and why we do it.
