Friends of Art on Pier 86

Beautifying the Pier 86 area with public art

Project Description

Cyclists and walkers on the Elliott Bay Trail along the downtown waterfront enjoy some of the best views of Seattle. Sailboats and ferries glide over the sparkling bay, and on a clear day the Olympic Mountains come into view. But as the trail nears Interbay, the public space around the trail becomes less scenic and more industrial, with a massive grain elevator and silos dominating the view at Pier 86. To beautify this area—much as the Olympic Sculpture Park has improved the southern section of the trail—the Friends of Art on Pier 86 are discussing options for public art that encompasses many types of artistic expression.

The project will involve close collaboration with the Port of Seattle and its tenant at the pier, Louis Dreyfus Company, and will aim to complement the city’s efforts to revitalize the entire downtown waterfront while also coexisting with a working industrial area.
