SUMMARY:Lid I-5 Walking Tour: Core Area
DESCRIPTION:See I-5 up close and personal where it cuts through the heart of Seattle\, and learn about the community-led efforts to put a lid on it. \nThis grassroots urban design effort is gaining momentum in the mission to build a more connected\, sustainable\, and equitable city. Join the volunteer-led Lid I-5 Steering Committee on a tour of the Downtown lid study area to experience the dreadful freeway canyon firsthand and hear the latest project details. You’ll see how Seattle’s unique topography and the freeway configuration will influence design\, and walk through existing lids at the Seattle Convention Center and Freeway Park (celebrating its 50th year in 2026!). And you’ll learn about the project’s latest milestones with public policy and funding that are making it happen. \nThis is the shorter tour that looks at the core study area between Madison Street and Denny Way. \nJoin us rain or shine. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are encouraged. This walk is approximately 1.5 miles and includes staircases and hillclimbs. \nDonations of $10 per person or more are welcome but not required to participate. Your contribution can help sustain our efforts for the years to come\, through our fiscal partnership with the Seattle Parks Foundation. \nRegistration + Details Here \nMore about Lid I-5

SUMMARY:Freeway Park 50th Anniversary Forum
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Freeway Park and join a civic discussion on the evolution of this nationally significant urban design project. \nA moderated panel discussion with expert speakers will bring the audience along a journey of past\, present\, and future. We’ll think about growth and reconnection of the Downtown and First Hill neighborhoods over the past half-century\, the successes and challenges stewarding this urban park through the Freeway Park Association\, an update on the current capital improvements project\, the implications of being a designated landmark\, and how the park is inspiring the future Lid I-5 project that seeks to expand public land over the freeway below. \nMore Info + Registration

SUMMARY:Survival Rings for trees in Schmitz Preserve Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a restoration work party at Schmitz Preserve Park. \nWe will be hiking off trail to reach trees that have ivy growing up the trunks. This ivy acts like a sail on the tree making it more likely to fall during a wind storm. The ivy growing vertically also stimulates it to make seeds\, which spreads more ivy. We will create Survival Rings by cutting the ivy that is on the trunks and pulling it away from the bases of the trees. This will be a more difficult volunteer event for hardy souls! \nRegister
