Every month\, volunteers make a big difference by removing ivy so that trees\, bushes\, ferns and other native plants have room to grow. As you will quickly see\, the ivy covers large areas of ground and is climbing up trees. We also are discovering small Himalayan blackberry plants and getting those out immediately is a priority. Baker Park is being threatened by plant species such as ivy and blackberry. These plants take over parts of the forest by overgrowing and choking native vegetation. Every month\, volunteers make a big difference by removing ivy so that trees\, bushes\, ferns and other native plants have room to grow. As you will quickly see\, the ivy covers large areas of ground and is climbing up trees. We also are discovering small Himalayan blackberry plants and getting those out immediately is a priority. WCC has a grant and a pending permit to reopen Waterway 20\, a former public access point on Lake Union adjacent to Gas Works Park (currently occupied by the Seattle Police Harbor Patrol). More about Waterways here. WCC will present the current status of the property and potential recreational options.
