SUMMARY:Wildflower Meadow Creation at Discovery Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a restoration work party at Discovery Park \nThe south meadow is dominated by mainly 4 exotic grasses. This near monoculture is not great for wildlife habitat. We will be creating a small area devoid of grasses for planting 30 different species of native wildflowers to support our many pollinators and birds. We are using the recommended methodology to create new wildflower meadows according to the Xerces Society and Northwest Meadowscapes. DESCRIPTION:Join Dirt Corps this October as we celebrate the role of wetlands in fall bird migration and caring for our section of Thornton Creek at Kingfisher Natural Area.  \nWe’ll be learning a bit about the importance of green spaces and wetlands in particular as rest stops for our beautiful migrating birds. We’ll then be removing non-native weeds such as morning glory from around young and mature native plants and bare ground to help the native plants there grow and thrive and to make way for new native plantings in the spring. We will be creating a small area devoid of grasses for planting 30 different species of native wildflowers to support our many pollinators and birds. We are using the recommended methodology to create new wildflower meadows according to the Xerces Society and Northwest Meadowscapes.
