DESCRIPTION:See I-5 up close and personal where it cuts through the heart of Seattle\, and learn about the community-led efforts to put a lid on it. \nThis grassroots urban design effort is gaining momentum in the mission to build a more connected\, sustainable\, and equitable city. Join the volunteer-led Lid I-5 Steering Committee on a tour of the Downtown lid study area to experience the dreadful freeway canyon firsthand and hear the latest project details. You’ll see how Seattle’s unique topography and the freeway configuration will influence design\, and walk through existing lids at the Seattle Convention Center and Freeway Park (celebrating its 50th year in 2026!). And you’ll learn about the project’s latest milestones with public policy and funding that are making it happen. \nThis is the shorter tour that looks at the core study area between Madison Street and Denny Way.  \nJoin us rain or shine. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are encouraged. This walk is approximately 1.5 miles and includes staircases and hillclimbs. \nDonations of $10 per person or more are welcome but not required to participate. SUMMARY:“Teaching of the Tree People” Screening The Work of Bruce Miller at The Seattle Central Library Auditororium
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special screening of The Teaching of the Tree People\, a moving documentary centered on the life\, teachings\, and legacy of Gerald Bruce Miller (Subiyay)\, a revered Skokomish elder\, master artist\, educator\, and cultural caretaker whose life’s work was dedicated to preserving and sharing the knowledge of the Twana and Southern Coast Salish peoples.  \nThe film was completed shortly before his passing and serves as his enduring gift to future generations.\nBruce Miller believed that “the trees were our first teachers.” Through stories\, traditional ecological knowledge\, plant medicines\, cedar harvesting and weaving\, First Foods traditions\, language\, and cultural teachings\, he demonstrated how the natural world guides us in living with reciprocity\, responsibility\, and respect. As the bearer of generations of knowledge\, oral history\, art\, and spirituality\, he devoted his life to ensuring these teachings would continue long after him. \nPresented in partnership with United Indians of All Tribes Foundation and the Green Seattle Partnership\, this event invites community members to reflect on the deep connections between Indigenous knowledge\, cultural resilience\, ecological restoration\, and stewardship of the lands and waters that sustain us. \nThe documentary follows Bruce’s journey from his childhood among tribal elders\, through experiences at Berkeley\, Vietnam\, and New York City\, and ultimately his return home to the Skokomish homeland\, where he led a cultural renaissance rooted in language revitalization\, traditional arts\, ceremony\, and environmental stewardship. Paddles and balls will be provided – just bring yourself!  \nPre-register below to receive a free paddle upon arrival.  \nThe weekend will also feature free clinics to learn the sport or improve your pickleball skills\, 1:1 training opportunities at our Coach’s Corner\, family friendly activities\, and more on the Playfield next to the Amazon Spheres. On Saturday afternoon from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM\, participants will have the opportunity to Play Against a Pro from Seattle Tsunami. DESCRIPTION:Volunteers needed for the Burke-Gilman 55th Anniversary Celebration! \nJoin us to bring attention to the original 50 year old segments of the Burke-Gilman in Seattle. The 1971 “Hike-In” for the Burke-Gilman Trail was a rally on September 12\, 1971\, organized by Merrill Hille and the Burke-Gilman Trail Park Committee to gather public support for converting the abandoned Burlington Northern railroad tracks into a public bike and pedestrian path.
