Maplewood Land & Community Tending

Join us for a restoration work party at Maple Wood Playfield.

Futures Rising: Restoration & Co-creation and Seattle Parks and Recreation are partnering to offer this Land-based Arts, Food Sovereignty, Community Care practice space centering BIPOC community, and opened to all of our relations. This space offers our community opportunity to practice land restoration, stewardship, plant identification, field experience, tools and safety, food sovereignty, plant medicine, art, community, survival skills, culinary skills, and space and time to connect with the land and each other. This space will be facilitated by an intergenerational rotating crew of BIPOC Mentors who live to share and resource the next generation of brilliant humans. All tools and equipment needed to work will be provided. This space is intergenerational and all are welcome to attend!

This space holds so much generosity and strength. Maplewood Playfield holds so many Oaks! Imagine before the colonization of Turtle Island; massive and expansive Oak Savannas and prairies spanning the land from Mexico all the way to Canada. These rich and generous ecosystems provided food for all beings and held a balance that was tended by so many beings, including humans. Part of our work is to learn and practice tending. Over the last year we (including many community partners and stewards) have planted and tended foods and medicines. We will be creating more space for new plants arriving towards the end of October. Please come and join us while we tend this space.
