Seattle Waterfront Love

from Annette Yell

benchOur father, Bill Ellis, spent most of his career on the Seattle waterfront. Working for different steamship agencies, the Port of Seattle and then starting his own agency, Cascade Shipping, with his brother Edmond Ellis.

Our family spent many an evening entertaining officers from our father’s ships at our home during the holidays; giving these folks “a home away from home”.  Both mom and dad were well known through out the waterfront community, with their involvement with the Japan American Club, Rotary, Puget Sound Pilots Association and various other benefit organizations.

Daddy passed away in October of 07 and Mommy passed away in February of 08.  It was only fitting that their daughters dedicated this bench on a grassing hill overlooking the Seattle waterfront that they both loved and enjoyed for so many years.

Location: Myrtle Edwards Park
