Volunteer Park Water Tower Aesthetic Lighting

Location: 14th Avenue E. & E. Prospect

Thanks to the generosity of John Goodfellow, a Capitol Hill neighbor and native Seattleite, the interior of the historic Volunteer Park Water Tower received much needed improvements in the spring of 2011. All lighting fixtures were replaced with attractive, historically appropriate fixtures and additional lights were installed to improve visitor safety. Seattle Parks Foundation facilitated the private donation to Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) and provided technical assistance throughout the project.

The Water Tower was built in 1906 and is located at the southern entrance of Volunteer Park. Volunteer Park was one of Seattle’s first parks designed by the Olmsted brothers. The Water Tower is also home to an Olmsted Interpretive Exhibit - but to visit the museum, you’ll have to climb 106 stairs to the top! Well worth the climb, the tower is host to splendid views of the city.
