Neighborhood Greenways

Seattle Parks Foundation continues to work alongside city agencies, elected officials, donors, and advocacy groups to create neighborhood greenways in Seattle. These greenways will offer a safe and easily accessible route for pedestrians and bikers alike, providing pleasant, safe and convenient connections between neighborhoods and popular destinations such as parks, schools, transit hubs and local commercial cores.

Neighborhood greenways will be created along strategically chosen transportation corridors through the implementation of traffic easing measures. The greenways will feature low maintenance planting beds that will beautify these routes while also reducing storm runoff and airborne pollutants.

An interdepartmental team has been formed to carry this project forward. The team includes the Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle City Light, Seattle Parks & Recreation, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, the Mayor’s office and City Council. Seattle Parks Foundation is serving as an advocate for greenways, and offers fiscal sponsorship to community groups interested in creating new greenways.
