Maple Elementary School Play Areas

Location: 4925 Corson Ave. So.

Seattle Parks Foundation completed two play area renovations at Maple Elementary School in southeast Seattle. The first area was renovated with the school and neighborhood’s youngest in mind. Coined an "Exploration Area," we worked with kindergarten students and the community in 2001 to construct a safer, ADA accessible, and more amusing play area.

After completing the renovation of the first playground, we began working with community members and neighborhood children the following year to redesign and redevelop a second, larger play area. This project focus was on the play area utilized by 1st through 6th grade students at Maple Elementary, which also serves as a community gathering space for children and adults alike after school hours. The new play area design is not only vibrant and inspiring, but safer and ADA accessible.
