Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop
Location: Lake Union
Seattle Parks Foundation has been a leading force in the construction of a 6.2-mile multi-use route along the perimeter of Lake Union. The Cheshiahud Loop (pronounced "CHESS-eeah-hood") provides a safe, continuous, and landscaped pedestrian and bicycle route that links existing route segments, improved waterways, and street-ends. The Cheshiahud Loop also provides an attractive route by which to celebrate Seattle’s rich maritime, industrial, Native American, and natural histories.
Improvements made to the loop include: sidewalk connections along Westlake approaching the Fremont Bridge, Waterway 18 restoration, a connection through Peace Park to the University Bridge, a new curb ramp at University Bridge, directional signage installation, and lane striping. Additionally, an audio tour exploring the changing shape of the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop was created by the Studio for Urban Projects. The tour, entitled Field Notes, is available for download here.
In 2012, a final segment of the trail will be completed at the intersection of Fairview Avenue North and Fairview Avenue East, and in addition the intersection will be reconstructed to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety and function. Follow project progress here.
Seattle Parks Foundation continues to partner with the City and the local community to make additional route improvements. Moving forward, Seattle Parks Foundation will work with neighborhoods along the route to identify the next slate of improvements, steward the trail, and continue to enhance sections of the route as funding becomes available. More information concerning additional future improvements can be found in The Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop Master Plan. View the Master Plan here (19MB pdf) >
