Seattle Parks Foundation Supports King County Parks Levies
The Seattle Parks Foundation Board recently voted to endorse and will support two proposed King County Parks, Trails and Open Space Levies.  If passed, the two levies will raise approximately $32 million over six years to restore previous levels of operations and programs to the King County Park system, as well as expand parks and trails to address current and future green space needs.  On August 21, 2007, King County residents will vote on two levies. Bands of Green at City Council
Seattle Parks Foundation staff and board presented Bands of Green to the Seattle City Council's Parks, Education, Libraries, and Labor Committee on April 18th.

On January 15th, volunteers from the community joined Seattle Parks Foundation to build the second playground at Bailey-Gatzert Elementary School, creating a public green space in an underparked neighborhood.

The South Lake Union neighborhood and Lake Union Park were featured on a the Seattle Channel's Neighborhoods Show on December 5, 2006.

Restoration at Woodland Park Rose Garden is Finished!
Two fountains, a reflecting pool, and an Art Deco Bas Relief sculpture have undergone restoration at Woodland Park’s nationally-recognized rose garden, one of Seattle’s favorite Olmsted-designed green spaces. Seattle Parks Foundation has raised over $90,000 from generous donors to fund the restoration. A wonderful celebration took place on June 15th, 2006 in honor of this historic restoration project.

Brand New Pocket Park in Mt. Baker is Complete!
Construction is complete at Lakewood Triangle Park, a new pocket park in Mt. Baker. This project was made possible thanks to support from neighbors who collaborated to design the park and donated to fund construction. Lakewood Triangle Park has been landscaped and received a new stone wall, all in the tradition of the Olmsted Plan.

Art Installed at Homer Harris Park
Art created by a local African American artist, Monad, was installed at Homer Harris Park in the Central Area. The art includes a tree at the entrance, an “Animal Menagerie” consisting of an intricately sculpted brass elephant and a goat, and “Park Pets,” climbable cat and dragon structures. The tree honors Dr. Homer Harris and the African American culture, while the animals in the menagerie have a whimsical character and are designed to appeal to the many children who visit the park.

Park Furnishing Program continues to be a success
The Parks Foundation has worked with dozens of donors over the past two and a half years to pursue meaningful opportunities to recognize loved ones through donation of benches, picnic tables, and other furnishings in parks across the city.
